Finished News Story

Our team's profile story was about Carly Garrison- who is a bikini designer. Carly runs a Bikini making business in Kapa'a called ''CG Bikinis.'' The people who were contributed to it were Ethen, Megan, Nahele, and me. We all worked together to edit the story.

The final turned out was not as good as I hope it would be. The last voice overs were before the last interview. We could have done better by watching the story slowly, so will will noticed the mistake. But we were in a hurry, because it was almost at the end of school. Everyone was rushing, and so did we. We were having about 3 or 4 minutes left.

Looking back at the critique result, I have to agree to the people who voted 2 out of 4 for us. We deserved that. Just a little mistake can affect your whole story.

Real Worl Report

In Dallas Schools, Fear of Possible Ebola Exposure

Thousands of parents and school children in the Dallas area are very concerned after learning that five school-age children had contact with a man that is sick with Ebola. The school is just around the corner from the apartment where the Ebola patient was staying. The children that had contact with the Ebola patient are being kept at home. None of the children have developed symptoms and health officials said the chances that they pass the virus on are very low. Still some parents kept their children at home. Ebola dominated the conservations in the classrooms. Some parents had concerns about sending their children to school. Some felt the schools were not doing enough to ease fears.

My opinion is Ebola is a very dangerous disease. Keeping your child at home may be pretty good way to avoid Ebola when other children in school have been exposed to the disease. There are a lot of ways to avoid Ebola like wash your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer and avoid contact with blood and body fluids and do not handle items that may have come in contact with an infected person's blood or body fluids (such as clothes, bedding, needles, and medical equipment).

We should care about it because it is a very deadly and contagious disease. It has already killed thousands of people. So far there is no known cure for Ebola even though some people have responded to a new vaccine. Health authorities keep assuring us that it is not easily spread and we should not be worried about it, yet it continues to spread.

Lessons Learned

The most interesting part of our project is to interview Auntie Carly Garrison- who makes bikinis. It's a part of fashion and beachwear. It's very interesting to find out the way she makes and figure out her own patterns for bikinis. And one more thing that is interesting that our project was actually got to the final product and edited it. It took us a long time to finish it, about 9 weeks.

The biggest roadblock was we could not meet up at Auntie Carly's house. Meeting the team is a big challenge But we still work together in class. Another roadblock was some of our b-roll did not match the interviews, so we have to re-shoot them. And we also need more b-roll too.
The most valuable part of flim making process was everyone was knowing what they are supposed to do and one person does not have to do all the work. Also know where to place the mic and choose the best angles so the lighting will not be too dark or super bright. And you need to know how to make your story interesting. You do not want to make the audience look at the same shots over and over right??

HikiNo Behind the Scenes

In GT, we have been working on a HikiNo profile or HikiNo news story. There are four people in my group: Nahele, Meagan, Ethen and including me. We all chose to do a profile story about Carly Garrison, she is a bikini maker and owns her own business. So far it has been going as good as i hoped. But we only have one interview! The requirement is three interviews. Also, we have to have all three interviews transcribed by Tuesday! Ahh, gotta hurry up!!!

When the camera is not rolling, we are working on the final cut pro and writing things in the template we were assigned and take photos of us working to post on google and in our blog, that was one of our assignment too. We might be also discussing about when is the good time to film b-roll. I think we became closer than we were when we started the project.

I think to help my team I need to try to focus more in class about the directions and how to use the equipments. So when we go out to the community we won't be so ''surprised''.  I need to communicate more with my group. And I need to tell my group when they are doing something that is not going to make the project better. I think our project in the end is going to be great!
